Brandappl

Help

How Brandappl works, in the order you meet it. Each section below answers one question on its own, so you can jump straight to the one you need.

If this does not answer your question, write to us.

Getting started

Brandappl turns a few honest answers about what you do into a complete brand system, then generates everything you publish from that system. You need a name and about ten minutes.

Create an account, type a brand name on your dashboard, and work through four steps: the brief, the identity, the living system, and apply. Each step opens the next, and you can go back to any of them later.

Brandappl is free while it is in beta. Nothing is charged, we do not ask for card details, and every feature is unlocked.

What a brand is here

A brand in Brandappl is not a logo file. It is a system: a palette with a defined role for every color, a type pairing, a wordmark and a monogram drawn for your name, a personality read, and a voice. All of it is held as machine-readable tokens.

Every asset you generate is built from those exact tokens and checked against them. That is why the system is decided once and everything after it inherits, and why changing the system lets you bring the work made from it up to date in one move.

One account can hold more than one brand. Each brand keeps its own system, its own version history, and its own assets.

Step 1, the brief

Discovery asks what the brand does, who it is for, how it should feel, and what makes it different, plus two optional fields for a reference URL and competitor URLs. Answer in your own words.

Synthesize turns those answers into a positioning: essence, audience, tone of voice, competitive whitespace, and a personality read on four axes, from quiet to loud, cool to warm, playful to serious, and airy to dense. That read is what drives the identity, which is why the brief is worth ten real minutes.

Brandappl will not invent what you did not give it. A brief that is too thin is sent back for more rather than filled in with guesswork. You can edit the brief and synthesize again as often as you like.

Step 2, choosing an identity

Brandappl proposes color and type directions from your brief. Every option clears the same floor before you see it: WCAG AA contrast, a defined role for each token, open-license fonts, and a wordmark that is drawn rather than typed.

If you already have a logo, upload it first. The colors detected in it seed the options, so the directions start from what you have instead of ignoring it.

Explore as many directions as you want. Nothing changes until you approve one, and approving replaces your current identity.

Step 3, the living system

The living system is the whole brand in one place: the marks, the full palette, the type, the guidelines, the voice, and an on-brand surface rendered from the exact tokens, so you can see the system working rather than read a description of it.

Publishing a version freezes it. A published version cannot be edited, and every asset generated afterwards is pinned to it, so an asset always carries the version of the brand it came from.

Publish again whenever the brand moves on. Version history shows every version, which one is current, and when each was published. Work made from an older version is flagged, and refresh brings it up to the current one.

You can also publish your guidelines as a brandbook page and send that link to a collaborator or a client.

Step 4, generating assets

Apply is the generation engine. Give it a short brief, or pick a quick start, and it writes copy in your brand voice and renders it into a finished asset from your pinned tokens.

Apply opens once the brand has a published version, because it generates against that snapshot rather than a draft that is still moving.

You can edit the words on a finished asset without regenerating it, so the rest of your copy stays exactly as it was. Rewrite with AI offers a few alternatives, punchier, shorter, warmer, or more specific, and you pick one.

The engine makes six kinds of asset. The first four are on every plan; decks and content kits are on Pro and above.

  • Social post, square, 1080 by 1080
  • Social story, 1080 by 1920
  • Link preview card, 1200 by 630
  • Landing page
  • Slide deck
  • Starter content kit

Downloading and exporting

Everything you make is yours to take away. There is no export fee and no export plan, and there are two places to download from: a finished asset, and the living system.

Assets download in the format that suits them. Social posts and link cards come down as PNG. Landing pages and content kits come down as HTML files. A deck exports three ways: a PDF, a zip holding one PNG per slide, or an editable PowerPoint file.

The living system page carries the brand spine itself, which is what you hand to a developer or to another designer.

  • tokens.json, the full token set
  • A Figma tokens file
  • brand.css, the tokens as CSS custom properties
  • The wordmark and the monogram as SVG
  • A favicon and an app icon cut from the monogram

Hosted pages

A landing page you generate in Apply can be published as a real page at an address like yourname.pages.brandappl.com. You pick the name when you publish it.

That name is a single web address label: lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens, with no dots. A few names are reserved because the service itself uses them, and the form tells you before you publish rather than after.

What goes live is a snapshot taken at publish time, pinned to the brand version it was rendered from, so a live page never changes under you. Publish again to push your latest copy and photo to it, or unpublish to take it down.

Your guidelines can be published the same way, as a brandbook page. How many pages you can have live at once depends on your plan.

Custom domains

Instead of the brandappl address, a hosted page can be served at your own domain, like brand.yourcompany.com.

Connect the domain in the page controls, then add one DNS record where you manage that domain, usually at your registrar. The exact record is shown to you with a copy button. The certificate is issued for you, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to install.

DNS changes take a while to spread. The domain shows as pending until it is verified and serving, and check status re-tests it whenever you want.

Custom domains are a paid feature. On the free plan you can see the control, and connecting a domain needs Pro or above.

The plans and what each one includes

Brandappl is free while it is in beta. Paid plans are set up but not on sale, nobody has been charged, and every feature is unlocked for everyone. What follows is what applies from the day they go on sale.

You are never billed per asset. What a plan buys is brands, seats, and room to publish.

Every price includes VAT, so the figure on the card is the figure that leaves your account. The current prices and the exact limits on your plan are always shown on the plan and billing screen in your account.

  • Free. One brand, one hosted page, social posts, link cards and a landing page, and a made with brandappl line on the page you publish.
  • Pro. Unlimited brands, your own custom domain, favicon customization, the colophon removed, decks and content kits as well, and a higher monthly generation limit. EUR 18 a month or EUR 180 a year.
  • Max. Everything in Pro, five seats, unlimited hosted pages, and the highest monthly generation limit. EUR 49 a month or EUR 490 a year.

How the limits work

There are two kinds. Countable things, like brands, hosted pages, seats, and custom domains, are a number per plan. AI generations are a monthly ceiling instead.

That ceiling runs over a calendar month and resets at the start of the next one. It is a fair-use guard rather than a meter: thirty a month on Free, five hundred on Pro, two thousand on Max. Regenerating counts, so exploring comes out of the same allowance.

If your plan changes part way through a month, the generations you already made stay legitimate. Nothing you generated under a higher limit is taken back or counted against you twice.

While the beta lasts none of these limits bite. They are on the billing screen so you can see what a plan holds, and they start applying on the day paid plans go on sale.

Billing and invoices

Payments run through Stripe, which is the merchant of record for a Brandappl subscription. Stripe takes the payment, issues your invoice, and accounts for the VAT inside the price. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach us. Stripe presents this to you as Link, its payments brand, so your receipt comes from Link and your bank statement shows LINK.COM rather than Brandappl on its own. If you are looking at a charge you do not recognise, that is why.

Prices are shown with VAT included, so the figure you see is the figure that leaves your account, and the VAT is shown as its own line on the invoice Stripe sends you.

Plan and billing lives in your account. From there you start a plan, change plan, update the card, and open the billing portal to find your invoices.

If a payment fails, Stripe retries it for a while. Your plan keeps working to the end of the period you already paid for, and only drops to Free if that period runs out without a payment going through. Nothing you have made is deleted when that happens.

For an invoice question, a refund, or a billing problem, write to us rather than to Stripe. We handle it and arrange any refund back to the method you paid with.

Cancelling, and the 14 day right to withdraw

Cancel at any time from plan and billing. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. You keep everything until then, and after that the account moves to the free plan with nothing deleted.

Ordinary cancellation does not produce a refund. On a yearly plan that is worth being clear about: cancelling stops the next year being charged, and it does not refund the year you are in.

There is one real exception. If you are a consumer and you are inside the first 14 days of a subscription, you may withdraw for any reason, without giving one, and that does produce a refund. Any clear statement is enough, and sending it before the 14 days are up is what counts, not when it reaches us.

The quickest route is the withdrawal function. It works signed out, so it still works if you have lost access to the account you are withdrawing from. Emailing us works just as well.

Signing in and account access

You can create an account with an email address and a password, or continue with Google. If you signed up with Google, use the Google button rather than a password.

Forgot password sends a reset link to your email address. Follow it and set a new password on the page it opens.

If a link tells you it is invalid or has expired, it has usually been used already or a newer one has been requested since. Ask for a fresh link and open the most recent email.

Deleting your account

Deleting is in Account, inside the app. You have to type your own email address before the button will do anything, so it cannot happen on a stray click.

It is immediate and permanent. It removes your account, every brand, every version, every generated asset, and any page you published, and live pages stop resolving. It cannot be undone and we cannot recover it afterwards, so download anything you want to keep first.

If you have a paid plan, deleting ends it. The plan is set not to renew and the period you have already paid for is not refunded, and because the account is gone you cannot use the time left on it. If you only want to stop paying, cancel instead and keep your work until the period ends.

We keep our billing and accounting records, invoices included, after an account is deleted, because the law requires it. The privacy policy sets out what is kept and for how long.

If you want bespoke work

Brandappl is self-serve. It builds the system and generates everything you publish from it, and for most people that is the whole job.

Some people want a different kind of engagement: a custom identity, hands-on art direction, work designed by hand rather than generated. That is not a plan you upgrade to. It is its own piece of work, and it is done by Andre Blunt Studio, the creative studio behind Brandappl.

The studio site shows the actual work, so you can look before you decide anything. If it is what you are after, write to the same address as everything else on this page and say what you have in mind. Andre reads it and replies.

If this did not answer it

Write to us and say what you were trying to do and what happened instead. The brand name and a screenshot save a round trip.

Support is handled by the people who build Brandappl, not by a queue, so every message is read by someone who can actually fix it. We answer as fast as we honestly can. We do not publish a response time we cannot stand behind, and if something is going to take a while we will tell you that instead of going quiet.
